Mystery Quilt

Hello, all.  It has been a busy month but I haven't been posting here.  I occasionally host things on FB for some family and friends.  We are doing a mystery quilt.  I thought I would post it on here, also.  If anyone wants to play along I would love to see your pictures.  Post a link to your blog in the comments or email them to me.  No prizes.  Sorry.  Just the fun of playing along.

First up is fabric.  This is a scrappy quilt.  Use that stash!  I hope someone plays along.

Fabric:
1/4 yard each of 5 different light prints
1/4 yard each of 5 different medium prints
1/4 yard each of 5 different dark prints.

You can actually get buy with slightly less than a full fat quarter but need to cut correctly and 1/4 the WOF is fine, too. You will need contrast between your fabrics. I think this quilt will look great scrappy but stick to one type of fabric. In other words, if you are using brights, don't mix with Kansas troubles.

I will also caution you that this will be a 48" by 60" quilt with borders and will you will be working with 6" squares.

FROM EACH OF THE 5 LIGHT PRINTS:

Cut 2 strips, 2" x 42" and cut each in half. If using fat quarters cut four strips 2" x 21". You should end up with 20 light strips.

Cut 1 strip 3 7/8" x 42" and cut in half. If using fat quarters cut two 3 7/8" strips. These will be used to make HSTs. If you have problems with these you may want to cut the strips 4" and cut your squares down later. You should have a total of 10 light strips in this size. Further cut these strips into squares. You should get five squares from each strip for a total of 50 light squares. I recommend storing these in a baggie or tray. At some point they will need a diagonal drawn. You could do that now or at the time you sew them.

FROM EACH OF THE 5 MEDIUM PRINTS:

Cut 1 strips, 2" x 42" and cut in half. If using fat quarters cut two strips 2" x 21". You should end up with 10 medium strips.

Cut 1 strip 3 7/8" x 21". These will be used to make HSTs. If you have problems with these you may want to cut the strips 4" and cut your squares down later. You will have a total of 5 medium strips. Further cut these strips into squares. You should get five squares from each strip for a total of 25 medium squares. I recommend storing these in a baggie or tray so as not to confuse them with the light squares.

FROM EACH OF THE 5 DARK PRINTS:

Cut 1 strips, 2" x 42" and cut in half. If using fat quarters cut two strips 2" x 21". You should end up with 10 dark strips.

Cut 1 strip 3 7/8" x 21". These will be used to make HSTs. If you have problems with these you may want to cut the strips 4" and cut your squares down later. You will have a total of 5 dark strips. Further cut these strips into squares. You should get five squares from each strip for a total of 25 medium squares. I recommend storing these in a baggie or tray so as not to confuse them with the light or medium squares.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I love hearing from people. I have turned word verification back off. We will see how that works.
