I keep reading good things about WordPress. So, I am trying it.<br />
<br />
Had to choose a slightly different name.<br />
<br />
MaryMakesIt.wordpress.com<br />
<br />
If this doesn't work out I may be back here.<br />
<br />
Hope you still follow me.<br />

I had hoped to make a post for yesterday, but alas, I failed. I wanted to do the Friday linking parties but I was just worn out. So, here I am. A day late and a dollar short but happy as a pig in a wallow.<br />
<br />
Today I had a Sew-In at my house. It started with just my sister and me and that ended up being all it was but it sparked so much interest on FB I am going to do it again with more notice.<br />
<br />
I set Sharri up in my living room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigo4NNdBu_sarox_REuxIlLL5xQ8Y8WEwY6pDAYK4AG8dczYOzdd9na8CBuvVqAr1y_J3gihxXycABOnf7F-jUQ-WO9SkFTvD4YV8SmHdbjDjJ-V0wQBy7oKUKF-8NB8x18JqLnRqLrJ9y/s1600/Sharri.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigo4NNdBu_sarox_REuxIlLL5xQ8Y8WEwY6pDAYK4AG8dczYOzdd9na8CBuvVqAr1y_J3gihxXycABOnf7F-jUQ-WO9SkFTvD4YV8SmHdbjDjJ-V0wQBy7oKUKF-8NB8x18JqLnRqLrJ9y/s1600/Sharri.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My sewing room is on the second story. I was even nice enough to go out to the barn/garage and bring in my old ironing board and set up on the ground floor. Sharri was working on a quilt called <i>Clovers</i>. She started it at a class but couldn't go to the next one due to an injured child. She managed to get four blocks completed today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjaxDGUwr6snmMyw0sqK8mH6-OtBdesAVQMeKHGuvaKYYB07-MtnSyFTkzbNKUyJgQyI6wMX3u1ONaZvmKgupzArrDTNy0yPHlYawtbqC9MNqk7xg0vf9XoyS09d8ncJMHInHupy6visgB/s1600/Clovers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjaxDGUwr6snmMyw0sqK8mH6-OtBdesAVQMeKHGuvaKYYB07-MtnSyFTkzbNKUyJgQyI6wMX3u1ONaZvmKgupzArrDTNy0yPHlYawtbqC9MNqk7xg0vf9XoyS09d8ncJMHInHupy6visgB/s1600/Clovers.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Her goal was six but there were a few problems that involved some unsewing. Yuck!<br />
<br />
Mid-afternoon one of our cousins (actually a first cousin once removed) stopped by. She had seen on FB that Sharri was at my house and brought by some hats she had crocheted for Sharri's granddaughters. Sharri just sent me a picture of two of them. Not a great picture but the hats were so darn cute I have to share!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/2014011895212247_zpsdede692b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/2014011895212247_zpsdede692b.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When I saw them I said, "Where's mine, Lois June?" She said she would make me one. I have a stash of yarn, too. I dug out some red I wanted a hat in and gave her that and three other skeins for her. She was happy and I think I got a deal. She ended up visiting for about 40 minutes.<br />
<br />
I totally lacked focus. Storm front moving in was messing with my head and I was sending messages back and forth with a couple of friends that <i>wanted</i> to come but things weren't working out. So, I got three sides of one border added to a quilt! I did have to piece the border but still....I am embarrassed.<br />
<br />
After supper I sat down in the LR with my husband and took a power nap. I woke up refreshed. Better make hay while the sun shines. So.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgASvmAzOER-ZJcrY9FLxvOeZ0SDrwzfOSKgIo1tGQvMp3DoVUKTBmEMWlceYnaj3WTLEYK7rwdEXqd3vOvU6tVTHzfEMcmWuPcwgnm7IfHXTIyIkNb8LgoRJxMFKCKae6QokUcNQn_P3Im/s1600/Agnes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgASvmAzOER-ZJcrY9FLxvOeZ0SDrwzfOSKgIo1tGQvMp3DoVUKTBmEMWlceYnaj3WTLEYK7rwdEXqd3vOvU6tVTHzfEMcmWuPcwgnm7IfHXTIyIkNb8LgoRJxMFKCKae6QokUcNQn_P3Im/s1600/Agnes.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I sat down at Agnes and began to sew. I am not sure why I thought treadling would be better than climbing the stairs to my sewing room. But, I did. It is warmer. Treadling helps warm you up. I am working on using up some fabric I mistakenly over cut.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/47753df8-7b91-4e3a-8400-bb8cab622229_zps9102f51f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/47753df8-7b91-4e3a-8400-bb8cab622229_zps9102f51f.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
One morning coming off of night shifts I didn't have enough of these squares for the quilt I was doing. So, I began to cut and cut and cut. I think I ended up with literally 400 in excess! I was on auto pilot and apparently thought I was covering Montana with this quilt. So, I am sewing the extras on my treadle for practice.<br />
<br />
I just read a post that Melissa over at Happy Quilting is doing a <a href="http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot.com/2014/01/star-light-star-bright-quilt-long.html" target="_blank">Star Light Star Bright</a> quilt along. I am thinking of doing that. I don't need another project but it would get me going again, I think I swore this would be my year of finishes but .... I swear I won't buy fabric for this. Has to be from my stash.<br />
<br />
So, what did you work on today? Are you like me and a bit wintered out? All these weather systems play havoc on me. Or, it could be the crazy shifts I work. Or, it could be my age but I seriously doubt that. I know my driver's license indicates I am 49 but that HAS to be wrong. It was only yesterday that I was 24, wasn't it?<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin'!<br />

I am back. It has been three months since I blogged. I have done quite a bit.<br />
<br />
I made a quilt for my cousin that had a double mastectomy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131109_162552_zps19db8076.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131109_162552_zps19db8076.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It was self designed and a little wild for me but I liked it in the end. On the back I included a Jacob's ladder because it is my family name.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131103_134639_zps6cf9a8ff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131103_134639_zps6cf9a8ff.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
That thing is 3'x3'! The red portion is a Snoopy fabric because she says, "Snoopy is the man!"<br />
<br />
I used a fun design in red thread for quilting in case she hated the front (she did not).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131109_162647_zpsb3f8d6ab.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131109_162647_zpsb3f8d6ab.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made a baby quilt for my manager's grandsonsongrandsongrand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131021_145113_zpse7ba7b00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131021_145113_zpse7ba7b00.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I caught up on my BOM.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131020_143057_zps9e7f8348.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131020_143057_zps9e7f8348.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I went to an auction with my DIL where I acquired this cute sewing box.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_144516_zps5bd22c38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_144516_zps5bd22c38.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_144552_zpsf36a27bc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_144552_zpsf36a27bc.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And, this folding table with a yardstick embedded in it. I collect yard sticks. So, I couldn't resist!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_105156_zps10f85e76.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_105156_zps10f85e76.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_105214_zps434c2123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131013_105214_zps434c2123.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I also helped my son clean his newly acquired rental house in a snowstorm.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131206_132633_zpsf3a72b0b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131206_132633_zpsf3a72b0b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Made a couple of neck gaiters for my husband and myself when the polar vortex or winter storm Hercules was approaching.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20140102_175442_zps32a6f5e2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20140102_175442_zps32a6f5e2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Speaking of that storm, we were without power for two days. So, I cooked on the woodburner.<br />
<br />
Breakfast:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZsmp9_e4W80ewH47sGSJ_OOJKA4HANH8X59l4VFTnx-Gd7VIVSygsUm7yF8ANc14XaMFtieQyeHEr05Z9-ptdzkWvvl_llvISOK5w0WsJFdpqY0gbutN1vaoaaFGXwCTpXJ8l0AwrUgkK/s1600/Breakfast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZsmp9_e4W80ewH47sGSJ_OOJKA4HANH8X59l4VFTnx-Gd7VIVSygsUm7yF8ANc14XaMFtieQyeHEr05Z9-ptdzkWvvl_llvISOK5w0WsJFdpqY0gbutN1vaoaaFGXwCTpXJ8l0AwrUgkK/s320/Breakfast.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Those are pancakes, scrambled eggs, smoked sausage and not pictured are the hashbrowns.<br />
<br />
Lunch was grilled cheese, tomato soup and chicken noodle soup.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqdZbsNDcjaTNspK7oCgBjCi3kJeHyp2GNtXQyiowUMNJfgb6A3KQDfvA4f-NCDuoP5xP3R4C7O9LFzis2dkoHObb_OypHDRwFIQAe19crWJMEIV2n4esJr0jo7QVi8rpNigUwwXHFz63l/s1600/Lunch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqdZbsNDcjaTNspK7oCgBjCi3kJeHyp2GNtXQyiowUMNJfgb6A3KQDfvA4f-NCDuoP5xP3R4C7O9LFzis2dkoHObb_OypHDRwFIQAe19crWJMEIV2n4esJr0jo7QVi8rpNigUwwXHFz63l/s320/Lunch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I had made tacos and refried beans the night before and that evening I made skillet meal that I fix but I can't get the pictures off of my camera. It is made from polish sausage, potatoes, onions, peppers and green beans. We had the leftovers for lunch the next day. No one was starving at out house!<br />
<br />
While the power was out I sewed on my treadle. So, now I am trying to complete that quilt on the treadle. I have a lot of goals for this year and one of them is to get back to blogging. So, here is my start!<br />
<br />
Hope someone is still with me.<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin' and stirrin'!<br />
<br />

Been a busy few weeks. Last Sunday I just <i>HAD</i> to sew. I finally put the binding on this lovely lady.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/1ed56086-b3c2-4fed-9b83-514cacbcbecc_zps1a21269f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/1ed56086-b3c2-4fed-9b83-514cacbcbecc_zps1a21269f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is where she lives.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130929_172043_zps10b9eb94.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130929_172043_zps10b9eb94.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It is nearly impossible to get a decent picture of a full size quilt by yourself. To top it off it has rained here and everything is covered with bees' wings from the grain leg running across the road.<br />
<br />
This is the pieced back I made. I used the scraps I had and I am not displeased with it. The solid is actually the "wrong" side of a print from Connecting threads.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183622_zps932dc6ef.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183622_zps932dc6ef.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I tried to make the quilting something special....as in attractive, not that polite way of saying something looks like 20 miles of mud fence after a rainstorm. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183636_zpsb155f710.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183636_zpsb155f710.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is on the back because it shows up better but this is what fills the outer red border.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183649_zpsf71f1988.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183649_zpsf71f1988.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next border on the front has the little flowers. The body of the quilt has the "Hearts A Flutter" design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183655_zpsc373211a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20131004_183655_zpsc373211a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used bamboo batting. I did like how it quilted but it feels heavy on the bed to me. Hubby likes it and winter is on its way. So, it will be good.<br />
<br />
Today we went to Indy so that I could see my neuro. Then down to IUPUI so that I could have a chest CT. I swear I will soon glow in the dark after all the damn x-rays and CT scans I have had. But, if this one is clean I get to skip my December CT. YAY!!<br />
<br />
I hope to sew tomorrow. I have a cousin that had a double mastectomy this week. I want to make her a quilt. Red is her favorite color (and mine!) I am thinking of making a black and white print quilt like this one with a red border and red flowers appliqued on it. What do you think? Too modern? Too cutesy? I want cheerful but not pink ribbon. I think that can be overwhelming. My LQS has some black and white jelly rolls that I think would work. I, of course, have a lot of red fabric. That is my plan for tomorrow.<br />
<br />
Going to try linking up with some parties.<br />

I got off work at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday. I slept for a couple hours and then I started canning. I go back to work tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. This is what I got done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_0Urr6FDFPC3hzVBaFa6wceipFEDHPV2ZAGYGArCPzGoyOMED84AL4t2oaLcnnpowrrKQpTDsg2h21PUFfWSQB_46_Q4ZaVLUacNZY2PZLhk5sI7oFMSoPuHYCYDpKJq49xwjDUbWYLMI/s1600/Canning+2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_0Urr6FDFPC3hzVBaFa6wceipFEDHPV2ZAGYGArCPzGoyOMED84AL4t2oaLcnnpowrrKQpTDsg2h21PUFfWSQB_46_Q4ZaVLUacNZY2PZLhk5sI7oFMSoPuHYCYDpKJq49xwjDUbWYLMI/s320/Canning+2013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That, folks, is 43 quarts of tomato juice, 13 quarts and 3 pints of apple pie filling and 20 pints of applesauce.<br />
<br />
I also received a call today telling me our beef was ready a week before I expected it. So, I cleaned and defrosted the freezer. With all that going on I ended up sweeping and mopping our full basement and reorganizing my food storage. <br />
<br />
I am beat! Not a stitch of sewing. Don't know when I will get back to it but I will. Hang in there with me. Monday is my one day off and I am going two hours one way to see my oncologist. Tuesday I am back on nights. Next Saturday I am hosting my 30 year class reunion.<br />
<br />
My Civil War BOM is having sign up for next year. I just can't decide. I love going each month to be with the women and seeing their work but I can't NOT do each month and I am getting overwhelmed. Work really interferes with my fun!!<br />
<br />
So, what are you up to? Can't wait to see everyone's links for Friday.<br />
<br />
Keep Stitchin'!<br />

Hello, all. I am making another post about my Jelly Roll 1600 in French General. I think I will get one more post out of this quilt. You can read the first two <a href="http://www.madewithlovebymary.blogspot.com/2013/06/work-in-progress-wednesday-french.html" target="_blank">here</a> and h<a href="http://www.madewithlovebymary.blogspot.com/2013/08/finally-friday-finish-or-two.html" target="_blank">ere</a>. I really wanted to have this quilted today BUT my current migraines is laughing maniacally and saying, "No way, sister!" So...here I am, posting about quilting instead of actually doing it.<br />
<br />
I like to do edge to edge designs because they are quick and easy. But I have done enough of those that I feel like I should break out of my box and try harder. So, I have three different border designs. First I did swags. Then, I went back and filled in with straight line quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_115751_zps7dbce2f2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_115751_zps7dbce2f2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sorry for the shadows. It is still on the quilting frame in my basement. I am doing all of this with rulers. The swags show up better on the back but they are now rolled onto the take up roller. For the next border (the cream with the red print) I am doing a floral.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153100_zpsd5ad8a88.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153100_zpsd5ad8a88.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For the body of the quilt I am using a design called Hearts A Flutter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153526_zpsffdcb1fa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153526_zpsffdcb1fa.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now for my confessions.<br />
<br />
1. I took a class with a Handi Quilter educator and she told us, "Groovy boards are quilting for idiots." Thanks! I am an idiot and I am fine with that some times. The heart design and the floral design are Groovy Boards.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153611_zps5afb5d10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153611_zps5afb5d10.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There is a stylus attached to the machine carriage and you move the machine and follow the design. Because I am not doing edge to edge and am mixing designs I have to do a lot of adjusting and pay attention to get them in the right place. Hopefully, that saves me from being a complete idiot. Not that I really care.<br />
<br />
2. I royally screwed up the back but found it too late to fix.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153114_zps7b70e4d4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130911_153114_zps7b70e4d4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
See the puckers I sewed into the back? That made me HAPPY! NOT! Since this is for my bed, I just take it as another lesson learned. Hopefully it will be less obvious after it is washed.<br />
<br />
BTW, here is the backing for this quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_210147_zpsa700ffad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_210147_zpsa700ffad.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Yes, I know. C- R - A- Z - Y! I made the fabric I had on hand work and sort of satisfied my OCD. I am using bamboo batting for the first time ever. A lady in my quilt group kept extolling its virtues. Since I have allergies and it is hypoallergenic I thought I would try it.<br />

I am writing this Thursday night and hope to link up with my normal parties tomorrow. We will see how that works. May be next week because I am on the road to NY tomorrow. It will be a quick trip. Going to see friends and Niagara Falls and back to Indiana. <br />
<br />
My finish this week is a gift for the friends. They had their twenty fifth wedding anniversary this summer. I thought I would make a simple quilt. What could be simpler than the Turning Twenty? They like earth tones. I started pulling fabrics from my stash last weekend. I made the body and I hated it. So, I tweaked it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130901_152609_zps626bf807.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130901_152609_zps626bf807.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, that is a Bible. I am a heathen but I own (and read) several copies. This is a dual version, KJ/NIV. I added I Corinthians 13:4-8a to the border strips. This chapter is otherwise known as The Love Chapter. I had to take a little creative license with some of the wording to get them to fit. Nothing to change the meaning. I changed "love" to "it" occasionally and once dropped the "always". When I was younger I was lead to believe that was a sin. Turns out, I don't agree with a lot of what I learned from "Nazarene biddies" when I was young! They are probably spinning in their graves but I am betting on Jack and Becky liking the sentiment here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180750_zps12b81258.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180750_zps12b81258.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was pleased with the overall effect. The embroidery is done in a Charcoal Sulky thread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180820_zpsdd7a0dde.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180820_zpsdd7a0dde.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Some are a little harder to read from a distance but can be seen fine in person.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180831_zpsd8c04d02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180831_zpsd8c04d02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180849_zpsc0f2b54c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_180849_zpsc0f2b54c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I quilted this with a variegated thread from King Tut. Number 983 if you are REALLY curious. I used a leaf pattern for the body.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130903_200403_zpse923ccd5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130903_200403_zpse923ccd5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bless my husband's heart. He told me what he likes are the little bobbles like you see in that leaf center. He feels like that shows I did it instead of a computer. If he looked close enough he would find that proof about every six inches!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did straight line quilting on the outer border and though you can't see it, I did SID around the blocks with embroidery.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130903_200356_zpse7698ba3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130903_200356_zpse7698ba3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Most of the fabric is from Connecting Threads. I had to order a piece for backing and found this stripe on sale, too. So, I used it for the binding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_050806_zpsf978c531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_050806_zpsf978c531.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_181153_zps68110dba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130904_181153_zps68110dba.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The backing is dark brown and I could not get the colors of the binding to look correct and it to still show. I was able to get the stray threads to show though. I knew y'all would want to see those!<br />
<br />
I am pleased with this quilt. I had planned it but didn't start it until last weekend. I didn't start sewing until Sunday and I had it completed - including binding - by 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. It has close to 5 hours of embroidery in it.<br />

Hopefully, I will manage to link up with<br />

<br />
Last Sunday I finished this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130825_163133_zps003feb6f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130825_163133_zps003feb6f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I took it right outside (with some of the ravelings still hanging on it) and took pictures on my church pew.....and a rocking chair...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130825_163253_zps768b3c76.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130825_163253_zps768b3c76.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It looks beautiful out there. It didn't stay. I don't trust the dogs, squirrels and chipmunks. This is the terrible picture I took at 4:45 this morning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130830_045741_zps49fdef69.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130830_045741_zps49fdef69.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is probably where it will stay. It really isn't big enough for my taste but I don't think I can make one of these any larger. Most of my problems were of my own doing. I really wanted to use decorative stitching for the top stitching but was strongly advised against it. I wish I had because I ripped out the seams so many times it would have been faster. Also, I would have switched from the FW. I was having problems keeping a straight line with the weight of the quilted blocks on the FW. Once I set down at the countersunk Janome 6600 all of those problems went away.<br />
<br />
Here are some close ups of the blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130830_045820_zps40ba2c73.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130830_045820_zps40ba2c73.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130830_045852_zps02680470.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130830_045852_zps02680470.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As you can see, I washed it and I am pleased with how it washed up. I would do one of these again but I would change some things. First, I don't use a steam iron. I would for the batting. I did part of this at a class at the LQS and they used a steam iron. I could tell that some of my blocks had shrunken batting and I am guessing that is why. I had double checked each piece of batting's size after I cut them.<br />
<br />
Also, though it would take longer, I still think I want to do one with decorative stitching. Maybe just a table runner. I was determined this not become a UFO so I waded through it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had done a little at a time.<br />

I do NOT have my Fun 'n' Done completed. I had to give up because I was so tired I couldn't keep my seams straight. Here is an example. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130823_160943_zps15b91933.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130823_160943_zps15b91933.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I will be picking that out again. I thought I had completed joining one set of rows and had the first seam in the other three sets. Turns out I missed something. One set has no seam and I picked out the seam of one. Grrr! You see why I finally stopped.<br />
<br />
So, my little bitty finish is this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130823_160025_zps7e06c09b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130823_160025_zps7e06c09b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
That is right. Two dish cloths. They aren't the same size because I didn't have enough yarn for the last row of the second one. They are dish rags for crying out loud. Who cares if they are straight?<br />
<br />
I made the first one last week while I waited on my 22 year old to have a colonoscopy. I was a little embarrassed the it was all I had completed. So, today it has a little sister and I am posting them. Hey, I have worked 72 hours on two different shifts in the past seven days. This is all I have in me!!<br />

If you are new to my blog, go back one post to see the cute owl pin cushions I posted earlier in the week along with a link to the dead simple pattern.<br />

Last night was my BOM meeting for the Civil War Club. I had my block done. Woohoo!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtabdwC4pyM6Cpe6ELNDXm5vo0AoOy1ujBcp1xYouuyoG92kOIQHjTDCvAcct7LaZOf7Qyjt6SnO1fD5mwh28X4d0YNkjqUYdRBc6Xc8wLOrHHKFal7MVI5-0ldjsthbzJ1wbk594Y43tX/s1600/Aug+2013+BOM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtabdwC4pyM6Cpe6ELNDXm5vo0AoOy1ujBcp1xYouuyoG92kOIQHjTDCvAcct7LaZOf7Qyjt6SnO1fD5mwh28X4d0YNkjqUYdRBc6Xc8wLOrHHKFal7MVI5-0ldjsthbzJ1wbk594Y43tX/s320/Aug+2013+BOM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Yes, I know my points aren't perfect. I am not sure I care at this point but may later. Flying geese are not easy for me. Surely they will get better before I do the 44 I need for next month!! I also have to do another of this block. So, I will have 48 of them. I don't cut off the points. Mine seem not to meet at the bottom. Working on it.<br />
<br />
Our special project was a set of owl pin cushions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2kVJWUErREROqTvDIIchve-tAkubeRwXBf_2syCJQzxmuWVgFGCyMWSkuQb2fmCYudf7q7xYI25w6ktm17jm5r7AYzE1WTcf5_F7okgBrpagPr7P_JtH_XQtozaspN8XcHKIkoKUcyu3y/s1600/Owl+pin+cushions.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2kVJWUErREROqTvDIIchve-tAkubeRwXBf_2syCJQzxmuWVgFGCyMWSkuQb2fmCYudf7q7xYI25w6ktm17jm5r7AYzE1WTcf5_F7okgBrpagPr7P_JtH_XQtozaspN8XcHKIkoKUcyu3y/s320/Owl+pin+cushions.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am not much into owls or pin cushions. So, I made mine in the colors my SIL wants and am giving them to her. All of the buttons are from my stash. The one poor little owl has two different eyes. His left eye has some deformity. It is textured! If you like these owls you can find the free pattern <a href="http://agataria.blogspot.com/2011/03/folded-owl.html" target="_blank">here</a>. It is very simple. My mama owl is stuffed with lizard litter and a little fiberfill to make closing easier. The babies have emery sand and fiberfill. The lady in our club recommended - and I second - that you baste across the fold before stuffing and that you fold over a scant quarter inch of fabric and "hem" it on the opening. I felt they were easier to stuff if I put my closing thread in before stuffing. I used embroidery floss.<br />
<br />
In our club we get "scrips" that we can use at an auction held at the end of the year. They are earned by attendance, bringing our journal, having our block done, special projects, show and tell and CW stories. She said from the beginning they could be truth or fiction. Last night I went with fiction.<br />
<br />
I make soap. I haven't made any for a few years because my family wasn't using it fast enough. A friend at work wanted to try making some and that got me to thinking about it again. I enjoy it. I used soap making as the basis for my story last night. <br />
<br />
My family is big story tellers. Some people would call them liars. They are good at taking a grain of truth and rolling it around in "details" and things they might wish had happened until it is the size of a hush puppy. I might have inherited a touch of that.<br />
<br />
My family tree has been documented back to the 17th century when immigration to the US began. We settled in Virginia and then down into the Carolinas and back to Kentucky before my branch landed in Indiana. During the War of Northern Aggression most of my relatives were on the Confederate side. I have several ancestors that were POWs. I took this little grain of truth and my knowledge of soap making and created a story for last night.<br />
<br />
This from the journal of a female ancestor who also happens to be named Mary. I kid you not there is at least one in every generation since our arrival in the US. I am it for my generation in my branch.<br />
<br />
Please read with a soft, southern voice.<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>The boys have been gone for over two years now. We still get word that Jesse and Andrew are
being held in prisons in the North. I
pray this is true. The Yankees were
through last week. I tried to be
civil. I tried to remember they were
some woman’s son. Some of them made that
a trial. But, I think of my dear friend
Abigail in the north. I know that she is
treating all soldiers whether they be northern or southern boys. I feel I have to do the same. One day it may be her son in my yard.</i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>We fed them what little we had. I doctored their wounds. For some reason what they were most
interested in was my soap. They took
nearly every bit I had. We were left
with a few old bars from before the war that had turned yellow. It is good soap and still cleans.</i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>Before they left they burnt the oak grove that Grandaddy had
planted when Mama and each of her siblings were born. There were 15 great oaks. One for each child. Now there are none. Since they took our soap and left us with
ashes, I felt the Lord was telling me to make soap. I needed tallow. Nothing around here with more grease than a
possum. We set traps and I caught 15 of
them. We needed the meat. I cooked them up but kept every scrap of fat
and today I used that old possum fat and those ashes to make soap.</i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>It kept us busy and warm for a while. We had to gather up all those ashes. Then we boiled them in some rain water. I didn’t have an egg but little Squire,
Claude’s boy, found me a nest of robin eggs. I sure hated to take them but I
hope Mama Robin understands we are all sacrificing. I boiled and boiled those ashes and when they
started feeling slippery I let them cool.
I was in luck. I got the egg to
float the first try. </i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>We mixed that lye with the possum tallow and made our
soap. I didn’t have anything but a few
mint leaves left to scent it with but it will clean. It sure isn’t my prettiest soap but it
washes. I wrapped it in the few scraps
of butternut flannel I had and I am passing it out to our boys when they come
through. I can’t bear to only be washing
the Yankees!</i></div>

Abigail is the alter ego of one of the women in charge of our group. She gives us information about life during the CW at each meeting. She loved it that I tied her into my story. I gave each of the ladies a bar of my home made soap after my story. NO, I do not make soap with possum tallow. I suppose it is possible but don't know that I want to try. I will stick with lard, coconut oil and such.</div>

Hope your week is going well. Because of my crazy schedule this is my "weekend". It is going good and bad. The good is I got to start the day keeping our grandson. No pictures but he was a happy boy. Standing up to everything. I fed him his cereal and fixed his Pap pancakes and bacon for breakfast at the same time. Nice to still be able to do SOMETHING right.<br />
<br />
My WIP is a Fun and Done I signed up to take at the LQS. Mainly I went for the company. Today was the final day. Since I had Blaine and the remainder of a migraine I opted out but have been working on it.<br />
<br />
I am now joining blocks. I have two layout options. Both are still a possibility.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130814_134917_zpsba6823a3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130814_134917_zpsba6823a3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
Option one which is what I <i>thought</i> I wanted.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130814_135320_zps781691ce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130814_135320_zps781691ce.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Option two, which I actually like better. I am glad I laid them out before I had joined anymore blocks. I am now at the point I can go either way but if I had sewn anymore blocks together it would have either been a commitment or a seam ripper.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I really am not enjoying this any longer. A little bit of it is fun but 48 blocks are not for me. I will use the technique for some other things but I doubt I do another of these start to finish like this. I actually stopped to pay bills and MEND because I was tired of this.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All the trimming is wearing, too. Look at all this waste and it is only half of it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130814_121218_zps97f041ca.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130814_121218_zps97f041ca.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I know some people call those crumbs and save them. I call it trash and that is what I do with it!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't want to sound critical of this technique. I think it would be good for my MIL and SIL. I will probably make some place mats or table runners with it. I will be posting pictures of the process in another post so that my aunt and a friend can see how it is done.</div>
<div>

Something came up and I didn't finish it. I have made no progress. So, I am sharing it now!<br />
<br />
A few weeks ago I wanted to sew but didn't feel well enough to risk any "important" (read costly) projects. I decided to work with some fabric I had bought a few years ago from Connecting Threads. It had lost its appeal to me. I <i>thought</i> I would whip out some quick projects and send them to charity. Thus far I haven't completed them but they are growing on me a bit. I have been referring to them as The Ugly Sisters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130721_144507_zpsaa932e34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130721_144507_zpsaa932e34.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I know this seems a bit odd. I had used the strips from the jelly roll for "training" when I was helping my DILs learn to sew. I also used them when we were working on vintage machines. None of them were perfect. Maybe I should have called these the Homely Sisters. I did take some of the 2.5" strips apart and fix them a bit but eventually called it good. I do think they are a little be like me. My husband and my parents all agree that I was a homely child but that I grew out of it. I think these have the potential to grow out of it, too. I am trying to help them!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130721_204836_zps2078a86f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130721_204836_zps2078a86f.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The four pieced blocks are my "practice" blocks from last years BOM. I had the thought I could donate these to a nursing home and they would be suitable for a man.<br />
<br />
I found another fabric for the other "sister".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130721_145905_zps5b3618d0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130721_145905_zps5b3618d0.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I plan to put a narrow sash to frame the "ugly" part. Then I am going to make a large pieced border out of the other scraps. I am thinking maybe "bricks" of 4"x6". <br />
<br />
As you can see, part of why they are ugly is because they seams don't match well. I feel a little guilty about giving them away like that but the overall effect isn't too bad. What do you think? Too awful for charity?<br />
<br />
I have read several blogs where people have lists and comment on their own progress. I am going to try that. Because of my oddball schedule I am making mine a five week list. It takes 5 weeks to get through a full rotation of my schedule. So, I will be at the same point on Sept 16. We will be gone to NY state the week before that. So, this list could have a lot carried over!<br />
<br />
1. Finish Fun and Done quilt (would do Wednesday at its class but just asked to babysit my grandson!)<br />
2. Complete Ugly Sister top<br />
3. Quilt at least three quilt tops<br />
4. Final border on 2012 BOM<br />
5. BOM for August and September<br />
6. Owl pin cushions for BOM<br />
7. Use D9P for leaders and enders<br />
8. Earth tones quilt completed to take to NY.<br />
<br />
Okay, if you are still reading, what do you call earth tones? I am just going to do a simple quilt. Maybe a turning twenty or one of those large block stars. Our friends asked for a quilt in earth tones (someday). This year was their 25th wedding anniversary and we are going out to visit them. I have the week of Labor Day off and plan to get it done then if not before. I will be honest that earth tones for me are a lot of the fall colors. I am not sure that is what they mean. What do YOU include in earth tones?<br />
<br />
Thanks for sticking with me this far! I have to leave for work again in a couple hours. Better get back to the <strike>sweatshop</strike> sewing room and get something done or everything will still be on that list next month!!<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin'!<br />

I am finally going to manage a post. I have so many pictures uploaded to Photo Bucket for posts that I am surprised it is still available to me. I will try to limit myself today.<br />
<br />
First.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_154351_zpscf938394.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_154351_zpscf938394.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is a Jelly Roll 1600 that I made from a French General jelly roll.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_154534_zps989dceeb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_154534_zps989dceeb.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I drug the darn thing all over the house trying to find a place I could get a good picture but it just wasn't happening. See the fourth strip up? That is the mauve/pink color in it. It matches the carpet in my bedroom - which was supposed to be "Pale Brick". Looks pink to me and I hate it. But, I love red. It is my favorite color. I found this piece in my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_154846_zpse3ea5cd6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_154846_zpse3ea5cd6.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It isn't perfect but will work for the backing. I have five yards of it and I am going to piece it with that print border in the picture to make it the correct size. Binding will be the fabric used for the red border. Made this all from my stash out of things I have had over a year. Yay!!!<br />
<br />
I am linking up with <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2013/08/can-i-get-whoop-whoop-check-out-these.html" target="_blank">Sarah,</a> <a href="http://www.crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2013/08/almost-finished.html" target="_blank">Amanda</a> and <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/frame?post=1413605837&group=0&frame_type=a&blog=3524807&link=aHR0cDovL2ZlZWRwcm94eS5nb29nbGUuY29tL35yL1JpY2hhcmRRdWlsdHMvfjMvbEZhOUlKLUpicU0vbGluay1maW5pc2gtZnJpZGF5LTc5Lmh0bWw&frame=1&click=0&user=0" target="_blank">Richard</a>. Be sure to check out the other finishes and COMMENT. We all love comments.<br />
<br />
My other finish isn't sewing but it is for sewing. This was my sewing room at 1:00 p.m.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_132950_zpsfaabd99f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_132950_zpsfaabd99f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_133001_zpsa6c885b4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_133001_zpsa6c885b4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wish I had taken a picture of what was under that table in the corner. If you enlarge the pictures and zoom n you can see all the crap piled on it and the cutting table.<br />
<br />
After two hours I found my missing patterns (two of them), threw away a bunch of little scraps I have no idea why I had kept and laid out all of my "current" projects in a reasonable manner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153600_zps1d95416f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153600_zps1d95416f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153828_zps4880aa9f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153828_zps4880aa9f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153645_zps438df5fb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153645_zps438df5fb.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153629_zps83b2b7fc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130809_153629_zps83b2b7fc.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
In case you are wondering, my ironing board (and more fabric storage) is in the bedroom down the hall. It helps keep the sewing room cooler (I have halogen lights) and keeps me moving to keep it down there. I did vacuum and dust in there. I also put away almost all the thread I had out. I found a missing pair of scissors, too. So, hopefully I will get some sewing done!<br />
<br />
On another front I also put up 37 jars of green beans and a froze a gallon of peaches.<br />
<br />
Now, supper and off to work!<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully, I am back and you will come back!<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin'!<br />

I didn't get a stitch of sewing done over the weekend. I am not sure what happened on Friday. I was so tired from work I don't remember much at all. I am fairly certain it rained again. It rains every day right now. My garden is so sad. It is thoroughly trashed by mother nature.<br />
<br />
We weeded last Monday. He hilled the potatoes and I hilled the onions. This is what it looked like yesterday evening.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130630_193310_zpsf63c4e1d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130630_193310_zpsf63c4e1d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Onions washed out of the ground.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130630_193323_zps15c6499c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130630_193323_zps15c6499c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Cabbages "boiled" in the ground. This is what happens when you get 7" of rain in 24 hours followed by a day of 90°F temperatures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130630_193339_zps036bf3f0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130630_193339_zps036bf3f0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Those are tomatoes. They were standing nicely in the cages. Behind them is the squash. It looks boiled, also. I don't blame my husband for wanting to give up. I am still going to try to plant beans a couple more times. I need some to can. Everything else I am ready to till under.<br />
<br />
Saturday it stayed mostly dry for the morning. I went to an auction. These are my treasures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135534_zps244162d4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135534_zps244162d4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
She is a 66. Her table isn't so much a treasure. But Mike seems to think we can fix it. I really wanted her just to have as decoration but if we can make her work - GREAT!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135457_zps5b0f732d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135457_zps5b0f732d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also got a 201 in the deal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135624_zps8b93323a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135624_zps8b93323a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Her cabinet isn't much better than the treadle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135436_zps8bd58133.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_135436_zps8bd58133.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think I can reattach the veneer and use that gel stain that is now popular to make it look good. Both machines are in good shape. Free moving and all parts are there. The 201 needs a power cord and a bobbin tire. I bought them both for $20. Surprisingly, my husband thought that was a good deal.<br />
<br />
He wasn't so enamored with my other deal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_130050_zpsb3df367d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130629_130050_zpsb3df367d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love this! I have to look for some of my less than desirable fabric and make a quilt to lay on her. I am going to use fabric I wouldn't use and batting scraps. I have a quilt that is worn out that my Grandma made but I won't risk it out there among the monsters we call dogs. The pew is now centered on the window. My husband and two of my sons came and picked it up along with the sewing machines. This picture is where they unloaded it. My DIL and I had to make 4 or 5 tries to get it perfectly centered due to the curve in it but it now looks lovely. I will load more pictures after it is "accessorized".<br />
<br />
I also bought two brand new pressure cookers and a bunch of other stuff. At one point I paid $2 for a shelf full of stuff so that I could have the vases on it. A fellow behind me offered me $2 for the "Vita Vegamin" on the shelf. So, I got the vases and my "yard sale starter kit" for free.<br />
<br />
Now, I think I may sew. I should weed something. It is only 66° here. I really want to sew just a little first. Maybe this afternoon!<br />
<br />
Right now I have sourdough French Bread in the oven. We may have a soup or stew for supper since it is cool. Over the weekend I was on a baking frenzy. I made sourdough cinnamon rolls on Friday for the family to have Saturday morning when I ran off to the auction. Yesterday I made wheat dinner rolls and a carrot cake to take to my MILs for a family dinner. I started the French bread but it needed longer to rise and I am just finishing it. I am very pleased that I got my sourdough active again. I had neglected it for a long time.<br />
<br />
Okay, off to do something productive!!<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin' and stirrin'!<br />

<br />
I am a bit of a tizzy. I live in a log home. I LOVE my house. However, it has not been given the external love it needs. We decided to hire someone to do it for us. It is worse than I expected. I seriously think I will have to take a second mortgage for this! I am really freaking out.<br />
<br />
When we built the house we used pressure treated logs. We were told that stain was all they needed. That is all we did. Now I am being told we did that wrong and we needed to seal them, too. I am also being told we need to fill in the checks in the logs. That is NOT what I was being told 25 years ago. So...back to the research board. <br />
<br />
I just have that sick feeling deep in the pit of my stomach. We could not have afforded a brick ranch (blech!) of the size we needed at the time we built. THAT is my husband's dream home. This is what I found that worked for us. I just need to find out how to make it keep working for us.<br />
<br />
Cross your fingers that I am wrong and the estimate won't be in the $25K range.<br />
<br />
Mary<br />
<br />
<i>Okay, 30 minutes of research refreshed my memory. I hate this getting old crap where I KNOW I know something but can't recall all the information. We did NOT do the wrong thing. For better or for worse, our logs were pressure treated when we bought them. We were not supposed to seal them with an air tight seal - and I am glad we didn't given what now know about CCA treatment. The inside of our home was sealed with polyurethane but the outside was let "breath" with water repellent sealant.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>There are two schools of thought about checks in logs. I am not sure that I agree they should all be sealed up. That seems like a good way to lock in moisture.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>I know none of this is of any interest to the quilters that read but it does help me to record my thought process here. I really liked the guy that came but I think we need to talk to some other folks, too. I still expect his bid to be in the $25,000 range. Did I mention we built this house with a $42,000 loan? I always compare everything to that. I am going to research some more and hopefully I have talked myself down before I freak out my husband, too.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Thanks for "listening"!</i>Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02983019041469120523noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2945736016403509181.post-16754472829067664432013-06-26T10:21:00.002-07:002013-06-26T10:21:39.547-07:00Work in Progress Wednesday - French GeneralHello, all! I will be honest and tell you...so far today I have not sewed a stitch. I am working night shift this week. To top that, Indiana is being hammered by storms for the past 18 hours or so. I swear the radar stayed orange, red or yellow all night. <br />
<br />
My phones are messed up. I am pretty sure that we have lightening come in on the line. The old ones still work but not the newer versions. You know, those I bought two weeks ago! This makes me reluctant to turn on my sewing machines.<br />
<br />
I do have a current WIP (not to be confused with my many UFOs and a few PIGS). I took this picture yesterday and hoped to get a better one today. The weather makes that a big fat NO. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130625_133805_zpse46f2d09.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130625_133805_zpse46f2d09.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is sideways but every time I tried the other direction the colors were not true. Once again I seem to have gotten my colors segregated. I am still debating using some decorative stitching in red on some of the lighter solids. This will have three borders in increasing sizes so that it will fit a full sized bed - mine! I don't have any of my own quilts on beds here. As a matter of fact, I have only ever kept one quilt.<br />
<br />
My other WIP looks awful but I am happy about it. I was successful in getting my abandoned sour dough "woke up". I may start a batch of cinnamon rolls before I go to work tonight but it will probably wait until tomorrow. That way the kids will come home and help me eat them!<br />
<br />
I am going to link up to F<a href="http://www.freshlypieced.com/2013/06/wip-wednesday-chevrons-and-mid-mod.html" target="_blank">reshly Pieced</a> and whatever other blogs I can find. I am trying hard to get back to blogging and sewing.<br />
<br />
Keep Stitchin'!<br />

I hate oatmeal. I can remember one day when I was five years old my mother made me sit at the table with the same bowl of oatmeal for over four hours. She swore I would set there until I ate it. I did NOT eat it and I am not setting there!<br />
<br />
As I got older I discovered I still don't like it but if I mix it 50/50 with apple sauce I can eat it. Mom would put butter and sugar on it. I don't like butter at all and never have. I digress...<br />
<br />
I am no longer five. Now I have borderline high cholesterol. Oats are good for that. Soooo......I discovered steel cut oats and found I can tolerate them. Did you know they are what the Irish and Scotts refer to as "porridge"? Who knew that was what Goldilocks was eating? They take 35 minutes to cook. I am not that dedicated in the morning. After a little research I discovered some recipes for cooking them overnight in a slow cooker. This is my version. I hate to admit it but it is pretty tasty. At least I think so at 0400!<br />
<br />
<b>Overnight Steel Cut Oats and Apples</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Ingredients:<br />
<br />
2 apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/2 inch pieces - you could leave peels on but I don't like them cooked<br />
1 cup apple juice - if you are going healthy check to make sure it isn't sweetened<br />
2 cups water<br />
1 cup uncooked steel cut oats<br />
2 tablespoons brown sugar<br />
1 teaspoon cinnamon<br />
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg<br />
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cloves - I like them but they are over powering to some people<br />
<br />
<br />
Directions:<br />
<br />
Spray the inside of a 3 quart (or bigger) slow cooker with cooking spray. Alternatively, rub it with butter or shortening. Add all ingredients. Stir, cover and cook on low for around 7 hours. This depends on your slow cooker. The recipe can be doubled if using a 6 quart cooker.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130530_045638_zps7460c713.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130530_045638_zps7460c713.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You can eat it hot in the morning or store in the fridge. To reheat put 1 cup in a microwave safe bowl (with a third cup of milk if you desire) and microwave for 1 minute. <br />
<br />
Top as desired. I don't use milk but my husband does. I like to put chopped nuts on mine. He likes crumbled bacon. I work rotating shifts. At 4:30 a.m. this is a nice quick snack to tide me over and it doesn't mess with my stomach while I am trying to sleep.Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02983019041469120523noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2945736016403509181.post-69940019801140966972013-06-25T07:46:00.001-07:002013-06-25T07:46:29.508-07:00Claiming my blog with Bloglovin'<a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/5256929/?claim=ktdt7jesh9j%22%3EFollow%20my%20blog%20with%20Bloglovin%3C/a%3E" target="_blank">Claiming my blog</a> with Bloglovin'.<br />

We shall see how that works. Last night I managed a little sewing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3lbNa-JGPUWZ8kxiOPhCUj6Hg5n4gwyZMvs72ZzT-QEbQaezYXNmn7jMN57EVbrzNPP6E3bEC-AuR8ozW4x1Yo1IZfptIPuUAeEp_PMF6v672YgmqY2aDrlZ0CUbLz_TIlDd2UHtWkFwT/s1600/20130623_220250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3lbNa-JGPUWZ8kxiOPhCUj6Hg5n4gwyZMvs72ZzT-QEbQaezYXNmn7jMN57EVbrzNPP6E3bEC-AuR8ozW4x1Yo1IZfptIPuUAeEp_PMF6v672YgmqY2aDrlZ0CUbLz_TIlDd2UHtWkFwT/s320/20130623_220250.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Hmmm....on my phone at lunch I could not see this.<br />
<br />
Okay, back to the design wall. Do you see a quilt there? This is a jelly roll 1600. This evening I managed to trim and press all the seams. This was after my husband and I tried to kill ourselves in the garden. He more so than I. He was home all day. I joined him when I got home at 3:00 p.m. I made it two hours and then I was done.<br />
<br />
We managed to weed the strawberry patch and the onions. I hate weeding. There is now a local CSA that I would love to participate in. However, the garden failures are the only real exercise WE get. <br />
<br />
It is now 8:45 p.m. and I am exhausted. Tomorrow I hope to sew, weed the lavender bed and plant the remainder of the annuals I have setting around.<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin'!<br />
<br />

I have missed you! I have just been busy. Just not at blogging. One of my buddies from the quilt retreat I did last year emailed me. Sallie, I am fine! I also had one of my blog hop winners NOT get her prize. I have another setting in my sewing room to mail her but haven't gotten to that again, yet. I am going to.<br />
<br />
So, just some miscellaneous stuff to dip my toe back in the blogging waters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130616_115830_zps2d199957.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130616_115830_zps2d199957.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
See this high chair? Looks pretty pitiful, doesn't it? I bought this at an auction when I was pregnant with number two. He was born in 1986. It was old when I bought it. We used it through him and his younger brother. It has been stored in barns, garages and sheds. I assumed it was rusted. We would wash it down when we drug it out to use for a visitor. The tray looks fine. We would put a towel on the seat and make do. That is the way people around here have always been.<br />
<br />
Now we have a grandchild. I bought some of the laminated cotton from Connecting Threads to recover it but never got around to it until this week. Of course, the child is now six months old and needs it. Nothing like procrastination. We do that a lot around here, too. <br />
<br />
Last week I pulled the seat and back off to recover. They are just too embarrassing to show. The screws were rusted almost through. The pressed wood was rotted. The foam was beyond description. So...I took them to Mr. Wonderful and he cut new plywood pieces. Then, while I was at work, he started cleaning on the metal. My DIL had suggested some "Hillbilly Chrome" - spray paint. If I painted it I was going to do a flat color to hide the imperfections from the rust. Turns out that was not rust. It was just grime. YUCK!!!<br />
<br />
We recovered the seat on Friday night and used the new foam I had picked up that day. It looks pretty spiffy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130622_101741_zps68e48764.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130622_101741_zps68e48764.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You have to enlarge the photos to appreciate the difference in the metal. The chair didn't have a belt on it. We are just using the one hanging over it to hold him in. He loves it! The tray is metal and it makes so much noise when he bangs it. He blinks and jerks every time but does it again. It is so fun to watch him.<br />
<br />
Arrggghhh....took a break in this post and went to Wal-mart - which I call Hell-mart. That place gives me an anxiety attack almost every time I go any more. I have made a decision this afternoon. If at all possible I am going to sign up for the CSA next year. I would have this year but didn't know about it early enough. My husband works himself silly in the garden but a few years ago we "poisoned" it with hickory leaves and shells. We knew about black walnut but not hickory nut until it was too late. Still trying to recover. We do pretty well with root crops but nothing else.<br />
<br />
Number 2 and his wife came down to pick up their dogs. We have had their dogs for three weeks while they went to Glacier National Park. They had a ball. Saw a bear toward the end of the trip but never in danger. They brought me moose pajama pants and socks. I developed a thing for moose when we went to Yellowstone five years ago for our anniversary - in February.<br />
<br />
They also brought me these.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130623_124906_zpse8ffab49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130623_124906_zpse8ffab49.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have never seen any like them but my research indicates they were made from the 20s to the 60s. I was born mid sixties.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130623_124922_zps4d6c33d2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae104/mjacob64/20130623_124922_zps4d6c33d2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Aren't they cool? I love vintage stuff in general but sewing and cooking in particular. They gave them to me for Mother's Day.<br />
<br />
I was trying to remember if I had done any sewing since I last posted. I know I have done mending. I also made my MIL and my DIL table runners. I think that is it. But I am starting to feel the bug again.<br />
<br />
On another front, while my MIL was in the hospital from having valve repair surgery I had pneumonia. While at the doctor I asked for my cholesterol and glucose to be checked. My cholesterol was borderline high. I expected that. So, I have been eating oats every day. I don't like oats. I have discovered that if I get steel cut oats and cook them with apples in the slow cooker I like them much better and I have 5 days of breakfast. It is working out well because I eat with M when we are off together. <br />
<br />
I have also been walking. I think I am going to try to do another half marathon in the fall. I want to do a full but I can't seem to commit to walking enough to train for that. Working 12 hour shifts makes training hard and when you rotate, too, it is nearly impossible.<br />
<br />
Okay, enough for now. We shall see if anyone is till following this mess.<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin' and stirrin' and just movin' in general!<br />
<br />
MaryMaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02983019041469120523noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2945736016403509181.post-56095910071069789402013-03-25T13:54:00.001-07:002013-03-25T13:54:59.252-07:00Week 8: Mystery Quilt ConclusionOkay, first is a confession...I did forget! I tried on Saturday but the weather was messing with my internet connection and I forgot after that.<br />
<br />
So.... here is the link to the entire Mystery Quilt. It is called a Buckeye Beauty by Judy Hopkins. I prefer to think of it as Xs and Os. Not so much a Buckeye fan.<br />
<br />
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/feathered-star-productions-inc/Web02.pdf<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Join the rows to make a<br />
BUCKEYE BEAUTY quilt,<br />
turning every other row<br />
upside-down to form the<br />
pattern.<br />
Add 6" borders in your choice<br />
of fabric. 1-1/3 yards of fabric<br />
will yield 7 selvage-to-selvage<br />
strips, 6-1/2" wide, for seamed<br />
borders. For borders cut from<br />
the lengthwise grain, you would<br />
need 1-1/2 yards of fabric.<br />
<br />
Thank you to those of you that have played along and left comments. I have not abandoned my blog or my followers. We have increased production rates by 100% at work and it just wears me out!<br />
<br />
Off to the shower and back to work for another night shift!<br />
<br />
Keep stitchin'!<br />

After all, a smart WOMAN like myself would not do these things.<br />
<br />
What am I blathering about? And, when are we getting down on the farm? This...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is a row robin I am doing on quiltingboard.com. The middle row is the originator's row. Her theme is The Neighborhood at Evening/Night. My neighborhood is a farm. So, I tried.<br />

I was trying to mimic hers which you can see in the top of this picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
She did all that by hand, folks! I <b>HATE</b> hand work. It is a pair of four letter words. I tried to add a lot of detail with my machine and was pleased with the effect until I laid in next to hers. It looks a little bare. I could add some birds/bats flying around and maybe a crescent moon. What do you think?<br />
<br />
On other news, my son and DIL have been here all this week. They came to play with our toys. She has been piecing quilts and quilted one this morning. He is in his dad's woodworking shop making an entertainment center, I think.<br />
<br />
I was going to upload a picture of her quilt but it isn't coming. Have to fix supper. Pizza...That should be no big deal except I make everything from scratch. N<br />
<br />
So, any thoughts??<br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />

Did you sew yesterday for Quilt Day? I did not. I did make it into a store but I did not buy a single thing. My DIL did. Have to sew this evening or tomorrow. I have my BOM tomorrow evening and haven't done it yet. it is a basket and I am sick to death of those darn baskets. Oh, well! <br />
<br />
Be sure to check back tomorrow for the winners of the blog hop. I am shocked at all the new followers I gained. Better step up my game.<br />

On to this weeks instructions.<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px;">Week 7: We will be making rows. Week 5 was block A and Week 6 was block B. Join the blocks in rows of 6, alternating A and B. Start with A. You will be joining them so that the 4-patches are sewn to 4-patches and the HSTs are sewn to HSTs. Pr</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px;">ess all the seams in the same direction. Trust me here. You will have 8 rows with two blocks left over.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px;">If this isn't clear, ask me. I am off work this week and should be able to answer fairly quickly. Next week is the end and I will be giving the link to the website I took this from. They have line drawings.</span><br />
